Another Great Read!

This week I read The Sins of Their Fathers by Emma Wildes and Lara Santiago. The two stories in the book are sequels to previous titles by both authors.

The first story, "Can't Say No" is a sexy historical by Emma Wildes. I was totally absorbed in this deliciously scandalous story. Emma's writing style is melodious, and there's an element of suspense that keeps the plot twisting right to the end. Wade and Helen are perfectly matched. She's not afraid to go after what she wants, and he doesn't invest much in the rumors that follow him. I really fell for these characters.

The second story is "Kissed by Fate" by Lara Santiago. Lara writes very hot futuristic stories, and this one was no exception. The kisses alone will melt you - will they ever! Lordy! One kiss seals the fate of Lizzie and Alex because in his world, a kiss has a much different meaning than it does in ours. If you've read The Tiburon Duet, you definitely don't want to miss this one. I really didn't know how the author was going to pull the characters together in the end. They seemed destined to lose their chance at true love, and I couldn't turn the pages fast enough to see them overcome the hurdles that kept them apart. This was a very good read!

Next week I'm not planning to review a book because we'll be playing Cowboy Games around here all week. There will be prizes every day, leading up to the release of my very first novel. YAY!!!! Check back for more details.

Book of the Week!

This week's featured book is FIRST YOU RUN by Roxanne St. Claire. Can I just say, hunka hunka hunka holy hero Batman! Wow! I'm officially a Bullet Catcher fan. If you haven't been properly introduced to any of Roxanne St. Claire's mega-alpha smokin' hot bodyguards (Bullet Catchers) trust me when I say you're missing something mighty good.

FIRST YOU RUN is a very hot, page-turning suspense. I loved the plot of this book as much as I did the characters. There are some really interesting threads of Maya culture woven throughout, with a touch of shamanism, and even a little Aboriginal wisdom. Miranda, the heroine, is a newly published author and professor at Berkeley. Miranda's book contradicts a doomsday theory that the Maya calendar predicts the end of time. There are people who desperately want to sabotage the promotion of her book, and they don't mind killing her in the process. Of course our Australian god of a hero, Fletch, isn't about to let that happen. Aaaahhhhh! I swear that man's voice could deflect bullets...or melt them. (Believe me that was a necessary digression. Now back to the story.) Fletch is already on a case that Miranda doesn't realize she's a part of. And when she finds out why he orchestrated their first meeting, he knows she'll hate him for it.

This is a very well-written novel. I truly loved, loved, loved it. It's a fast read, and one of the most interesting stories I've gotten lost in, in a while.

To celebrate another fabulous read, I'm going to give away one of Roxanne St. Claire's other Bullet Catcher books, TAKE ME TONIGHT. All you have to do to get your name in the drawing is leave a comment. I will announce the winner tomorrow.

Next week I'll be reviewing THE SINS OF THEIR FATHERS by Emma Wildes and Lara Santiago.

Book of the Week!

It's review time for Phantom Pleasures, the first book of Julie Leto's new Phantom series.

It's been a long time since I've read a ghost story and this is by far the sexiest ghost story I've ever read. The plot has wicked twists and turns that continue taking the story deeper and arousing anticipation for the next books in the series. Damon Forsyth is a delicious phantom trapped inside a cursed castle, and only Alexa Chandler can save him from the dark magic that has held him prisoner for centuries.

I love folklore, and Phantom Pleasures is steeped in romantic gypsy magic that promises to continue throughout the series. There's a well-crafted mix of historical and contemporary romance elements that lends depth to the novel that a lot of books don't achieve. The hero and heroine are explosive together and the threat outside the castle walls is complex enough to carry us well into the series. I'm looking forward to the second book, Phantom's Touch.

Next week I'll be reviewing First You Run by Roxanne St. Claire.

Book of the Week!

I haven't been reading enough lately. And that just SUCKS!!! I love to read and always have. Reading is what made me want to write books to begin with, and all writers need to read. If for no other reason, we need to keep up with market trends - assuming we're writing pop fiction and not creating fine literary art, of course.

So I'm going to try something, and I'm hoping some of you will play along with me. I'm going to commit to reading a book a week, and giving you all a brief review when I'm done. Wednesdays will be review days, and I'll also announce the book I'll be reviewing the following week, so you can give it a read too, if you'd like. This week I'm getting off to a late start, but hey, I'm feeling a little spunky! So this coming Wednesday, I'll let you know what I think of Julie Leto's new release Phantom Pleasures.

And to make it even more fun, I'll give away another of Julie Leto's titles as a prize to someone who leaves a comment. Sound like fun?
